Last year we decided to take Mini Reviewer, Izzie (6), for a fun-filled family day out to the BBC Good Food Show. From Thursday 29th November until Sunday 2nd December 2018 the BBC Good Food Show is back at Birmingham's NEC. So if you are considering taking your own Mini Chefs or Star Bakers, take a look at how we got on.
From a really young age Izzie has loved cookery programmes her favourites including anything with Mary Berry or the Hairy Bikers and, of course, The Great British Bake Off. Previously we had only visited the BBC Good Food Show as a childless, carefree couple, so although we were very excited, we were a little unsure how the day would pan out with Izzie in tow!
As we had kindly been gifted press tickets, Izzie and I popped to the Show on the Saturday afternoon as well as visiting all day Sunday. Our quick visit on Saturday was a great opportunity to take a look at all the smaller stages and exhibition stands. We also managed to catch a glimpse of Izzie's culinary hero, Mary Berry, through the crowds.
Our quick visit on Saturday meant that when we arrived bright and early on the Sunday morning, we were raring to go and knew exactly what we wanted to do and where we needed to be. Izzie was incredibly excited about EVERYTHING we saw and did. She enjoyed sampling all the different foods (yes, even the pork crackling!) and she ate her body weight in cheese and ice cream!
There were lots of great exhibitors and different foods to try but I was really particularly pleased to discover some great dairy and soya free products for Mini Reviewer, Theo, from Delicious Alchemy and Koko.
We watched several cookery demonstrations on the small stages and saw two shows in The Big Kitchen, where Izzie even won a signed apron for her enthusiasm! She was over the moon to see The Hairy Bikers on stage, even though their show included a few choice words we wouldn't normally expose her too - oops!
Izzie also had the opportunity to get her new book, Nadiya's Bake Me a Festive Story, signed and we even had a little chat with Nadiya herself. Apparently Nadiya's daughter had the same shirt as Izzie!
Despite all the amazing shows, food and celebrities, Izzie's highlight of the show was undoubtedly Jackie, the incredibly talented "Icing Lady" on the Renshaw and Lakeland stand who made her a fantastic little reindeer. So thank you Jackie, you made this little girl very happy!
If you have children that have a genuine interest in food and creating their own masterpieces in the kitchen then do take them along to the BBC Good Food Show, as Izzie highly recommends it!

This looks like a really good day out. I would love to go with my mum and my son (don't think I could convince the husband though, unless there's somewhere he can sit and drink cider!) #KCACOLS
