One thing I have learned so far (on my very short blogger journey) is that apparently we like linkies. Now for quite a while I have followed a number of fantastic blogs but, until this week, the existence of linkies seems to have passed me by completely. After a quick search, I found that The Reading Residence, a brilliant blog I already follow, hosts a "word of the week" linky. So this is me linking up for the first time and my word of the week is "PROUD".
Yesterday I took Izzie to visit her new school. She is growing up so fast and I can hardly believe we are at this stage already. I have to say I had been fairly calm about the whole school application process but maybe that is because it was, for us, very straightforward. We picked two schools, we got our first choice and we were happy. However, as the school visit neared, I had started to question whether we had chosen the right school for Izzie.
Our decision had been made mainly on gut feeling. Our chosen school is small and friendly with a lovely ethos. It is a good school, it gets good results, and it is close to home. It basically ticks all our boxes. The thing is, Izzie currently goes to a nursery at another school. She has done for 18 months, she loves it there and is very settled. She has two little friends, who she often tells me are her "bestest friends in the world ever!" So, with that in mind, I had been considering whether moving her to a new school really is in her best interests. Will she be OK?
Well yesterday I think she answered my question for me. When I dropped her off I was slightly distracted by my younger two. I literally kissed her goodbye, said "have a good time" and in she went. As Izzie told her Daddy later, she had handled things like a "pro"! (She had clearly overheard me talking to her Grandma!)
Less than two hours later I was back at the school to collect her. Out she came in her Disney Princess T.Shirt, hair all over the place with a smile on her face. All the other children were carrying pictures, she was carrying a model she had made with feathers, shiny paper and lolly pop sticks. I realised there had been no need to worry because this is my girl, this is Izzie. She has become a little independent person, her own person, full of confidence and a lot of cheek! I am so PROUD.
When I asked her how everything went. Wide eyed, she replied that she loved her new school because her teacher is really, really good with sticky tape. So there you go, you heard it here first, do four year olds care about OFSTED reports or phonics testing? Free school dinners? Nope. They just want a teacher with sticky tape skills!
Until next time...
