Picture Book of the Month (February): Superhero Mum

As tomorrow is Mother's Day our very belated picture book choice for February had to be Superhero Mum written by Timothy Knapman, illustrated by Joe Berger and published by Nosy Crow.

Since we first read Superhero Dad almost two years ago, we have been eagerly awaiting a book to celebrate all the super mums out there. So we are delighted to be able to say that it is finally here and the wait has definitely been worth it!

Here's the blurb:

"All mums are truly brilliant but sometimes you'll find one who has a special something - like my Superhero Mum!
Mum may not look like a superhero, but she can run so fast it feels like flying, has super strength for carrying boots, bags and scooter, and can make bumps better with just a kiss!
A super-funny celebration of all the amazing things a mum can do, for special mums and their superhero children!"

Our Thoughts

Now we are fairly sure that all little kids think their parents are special so this fun book will really capture their imaginations. It is just as witty and exciting as Superhero Dad but, if possible, the bold and colourful illustrations are even better than in the original!

In the story itself there is nothing that Superhero Mum can't do... she mends, mixes, makes, tames tangles, chases tears away and even has time to play some amazing games. She never seems to stop and it left this tired mum wondering where on earth she gets her energy?!

So the main reason we've chosen Superhero Mum as our picture book of the month is because, not only is it a tribute to mothers everywhere, but it is also a gentle reminder to those tired and sometimes overwhelmed mums out there that even the simplest of tasks can mean the absolute world to our little ones and that we need to remember that we are all pretty super, as are our kids!

This book is one of our 100 Favourite Picture Books and can be purchased via our Amazon Store (affiliate link). Why not take a look at the other books that made the list?

Happy Mothers' Day to all the super mums out there for tomorrow.
We hope you all have a lovely day no matter what you get up to.

Until next time... HAPPY READING!
