Kipper the dog is turning 30 and to celebrate Hodder Children's Books have released a special anniversary edition of Mick Inkpen's classic picture book The Blue Balloon. This is the story in which Kipper made his debut appearance and the lovable pup has been entertaining children ever since. It is a book that I have fond childhood memories of and one that I now enjoy sharing with my Mini Reviewers so today we are delighted to be taking part in Kipper's Big Blue Balloon Blog Tour!

Creativity and imagination are at its heart, which are as important to children today as they were 30 years ago. That is why we are so pleased to see a new edition that will inspire future generations to get playing!
30 years ago The Blue Balloon marked the moment that I began to feel like a proper children's author. It was also the first time that Kipper appeared in public, although he had not yet learned to stand on his own two feet as the hero of his own stories. The success of the book confirmed for me what we all understand intuitively; that playfulness is important. The Blue Balloon Challenge
Inspired by Kipper's adventures with the soggy blue balloon he found in the garden, we decided to get our creative hats on and come up with an adventure for our own blue balloon. Take a look at how we got on building some super speedy balloon powered cars...
These cars can be created using any similar bricks, the most important piece is the final arch shape to attach the balloon to the car. Once the balloon is attached it can carefully be inflated, then hold the end tightly until you are ready to race!

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Kipper! I do recognise Kipper, but don't think we had any of his books when the children were young. I love the idea of the balloon powered car, I'm sure my niece and nephew would enjoy giving that a go.
