At Along Came Poppy we are passionate about finding affordable books and one of our favourite places to shop online is The Book People. We previously mentioned The Book People in our post about budget books so when they asked us to take a look at their amazing selection of Books for Kids and share our thoughts, we jumped at the chance!
I regularly look at The Book People online, so I already had some idea of the sort of books the Mini Reviewers might like. If you haven't visited The Book People's website before, it is incredibly easy to navigate and there are different age categories making it great to find books suitable for your child or children. The Book People also mark their "hand-picked favourites" with a red star so I usually look at these first as they are normally incredible value for money!
From the hand-picked favourites, I selected the following for the Mini Reviewers:
For Izzie, age 6, I selected The Famous Five Collection (RRP: £153.78), which includes 22 books by Enid Blyton for just £24.99! As a child, I loved these exciting stories and I couldn't wait to share them with Izzie and introduce her to the world of Julian, Dick, Ann, George and Timmy (the dog). Izzie was delighted to receive this box set and we have started to read them together at bedtime. These stories are ideal for boys and girls with a sense of adventure and who love a mystery. They are going to make for some great summer holiday reading, we can't wait!
For Theo, age 4, I chose Usborne: My Very First Castles Book (RRP: £9.99), which is currently just £2.79! This is a brilliantly robust non fiction book with lots of pictures of castle life. It would be ideal to take on a Castle visit. We enjoyed looking at this book together as there are lots of things to talk about and spot. Theo particularly liked the double spread on building a castle and the drawing of the knight's armour. For £2.79, you really can't go wrong!
Finally for Poppy, age 2, I picked a very cute Miffy Collection (RRP: £49.90), which included 10 classic books by Dick Bruna in a bag with a tiny plush Miffy! At £11.99 it was superb value and it looks like many people agreed as it is now out of stock. However a very similar 6 book set is available here for just £6.99 but alas there is no little Miffy!
Poppy loves this collection of books as they are small to hold and come in a lovely little bag. The illustrations are bright and colourful and the rhyming stories are about everyday scenarios so are simple enough for her to follow. The little Miffy plush is rather adorable too. Our favourite story is Miffy's bicycle, mainly because Poppy loves her own bike just as much as Miffy!
In total the books we received had an RRP of over £200 but they are available from The Book People from less than a quarter of the price!
Top Tip!
We highly recommend The Book People for their huge selection of Children's Books at really affordable prices. They are great for gifts and in the past we have purchased some of the large packs of picture books because for around £1 a book they make a great alternative to giving out traditional party bags and a bit more eco-friendly too!
Until next time... Happy Reading!
Kate & the Mini Reviewers xx
