When, at the start of the summer break, I asked Izzie (4) to make a list of things she wanted to do, I wasn’t quite prepared for what was to follow…
- Build Sandcastles
- Go to Rockpools
- Paint nails
- Make Fimo models
- Watch Finding Dory at the cinema
- Visit the Airfield for Theo and… wait for it...
- A RAINBOW DAY WITH RAINBOW PIZZA!!!
She either has the best imagination ever or she possibly saw it on CBeebies. That blooming Mr Maker has a lot to answer for! She even described how she wanted a rainbow hanging from the washing line made out of different coloured things. When I looked at her blankly she said, “you know Mum like fabrics and stuff”. I promised her I’d see what I could do and this week we had our Rainbow Day.
Fortunately I had several coloured plastic table cloths, balloons and ribbon in my “party” cupboard and we managed to create some sort of rainbow to hang on the washing line! We made our rainbow pizza for lunch. I painted the kids’ faces and they had a rainbow playdough session. The rainbow painting had to wait until the following day as we ran out of time before Izzie’s swimming lesson. Anyway the activities were a huge success and it just shows that kids ALWAYS know best.

The rest of the week has been fairly chaotic. Monday started with a rather hairy incident when I had to administer back thrusts to Poppy to stop her from choking during breakfast. The less said about that, the better. However, I would urge all parents to learn some basic first aid!
Izzie has had a swimming lesson every day and has done really well. I, on the other hand, have found it quite challenging to get us all to the poolside in one piece! Theo has picked this time to throw mega tantrums, have toilet catastrophes and even had a bump to the head that ended up in the gym’s accident book! I'm just pleased that it's a one week course and not two!
On Tuesday (9th August) we went to the library for story time and to mark National Book Lovers Day. Spurred on by this, I have spent most of my spare time trying to get through my ever growing reading list. This week I've read “Billy and Me” and I'm about to start "Always With Love" both by Giovanna Fletcher. I've also added Modern Lovers by Emma Straub to my pile.
I have also been watching all the Olympic gymnastics I can. Izzie was even allowed to stay up late to watch some of it. She called the gymnasts “superheros” and some of them certainly look like it. They are simply amazing!
