Say Hello to Cozmo! #AnkiCozmo

This week we have been trying out Cozmo from Anki. Cozmo is a super smart little guy with lots of attitude. He is incredibly playful and mischievous. From the moment he came out of his box, he has fascinated all three Mini Reviewers with his charming facial expressions and robot chatter. He has also been a hit with the adults of the family!

So what is Cozmo?

Cozmo is a small, real-life robot which offers children the perfect opportunity to learn about the latest technology, including coding, as they play. To use Cozmo all you need to do is download an App, charge him up and he is ready to go! The user friendly App guides you through all the steps needed to set him up, how to meet his needs and keep him happy. I admit I was a little nervous to try him out with the Mini Reviewers but it really was easy, even for this self-confessed technophobe!

What can you do with Cozmo?

Meet
Cozmo can get to know you and learn your name. If he recognises your face again, his eyes light up as he greets you. The younger members of our family really enjoyed this function, although Cozmo sometimes got the youngest two mixed up, which caused great amusement. All I can say is they must have fairly similar faces!

Play
Cozmo comes with three interactive cubes that can be used to play games with him like Memory Match. You can see Mini Reviewer, Izzie, challenging Cozmo to a game of Memory Match in the video below. There are lots of different games to play and it seems that more features and abilities are unlocked, the more you play.

Create
You can create with Cozmo in the Code Lab and programme him to do all sorts of things. Simply drag and drop the blocks into a sequence on your device's screen and then watch Cozmo act out what you have created.

Explore
Explore with Cozmo is our favourite function. You can use your device to move Cozmo around and control his actions. You see what Cozmo sees on the your device's screen and you can ask him to greet people as well as lifting, rolling and stacking his three cubes. The Mini Reviewers all enjoyed tilting the phone to steer Cozmo around and prompting him to play with the cubes. They got huge satisfaction from getting him to stack the cubes in a tower too!

Our thoughts...

I asked each of the Mini Reviewers to tell us their thoughts on Cozmo:

I like Cozmo because he can roll, lift and stack blocks. It was fun to make his head go up and down and move him round and round. Cozmo is very clever, he beat me on all the games! Izzie (6)
I liked Cozmo picking up the blocks and rolling the blocks. I really liked steering him using Mummy's phone. My favourite bit was when Cozmo had hiccups and I had to put him on his back. Theo (4)
I love Cozmo! (and she really did!) Poppy (2)
Cozmo is definitely fun for the whole family and, with appropriate adult supervision, it is a toy that can be enjoyed by children of all ages. However children from six and upwards are likely to get the most out of the Code Lab. If you are looking for a toy that is both fun and educational, we would highly recommend Cozmo!
