Chapter Book of the Month: Isadora Moon Makes Winter Magic

For those of you that are regular readers, you will know that Mini Reviewer, Izzie, now 7, has a favourite series of books about a little half vampire, half fairy called Isadora Moon.

We have previously reviewed several of the Isadora Moon books and we wrote about celebrating last Halloween with her creator, Harriet Muncaster, at Waterstones. When we chose our favourite books of 2017, Izzie quickly decided on all the Isadora Moon stories she had read that year - there really was no contest!

So it is no surprise that as soon as the eighth book, Isadora Moon Makes Winter Magic, was on Izzie's radar, it zoomed to the top of her reading wish list and we have chosen it as our Chapter Book of the Month for November as it is such a brilliant wintery story.

Here's the blurb:

Isadora Moon is special because she is different.

Her mum is a fairy and her dad is a vampire and she is a bit of both.
Isadora loves playing in the snow,
especially when her creations come to life!
But snow magic can't last forever.

Will she be able to save her new friends before they melt away?

In Isadora Moon Makes Winter Magic we are introduced to Isadora's Aunt Crystal, a snow fairy, whose speciality is ice magic. Aunt Crystal creates an ice rink and lots of magical snow in Isadora's garden. Isadora and Pink Rabbit have soon built a Snow Boy and Snow Bunny, who then come to life of course! They all have lots of fun playing together until Isadora realises that Snow Boy cannot stay with her as he is melting, so off they go to the Land of Ice and Snow where they meet the Snow Fairy Queen and their adventure continues.

Izzie says: I liked this story because it surprised me when Snow Boy came alive and I liked that there was a happy ending. I liked the wintery pictures, the glittery front cover and silvery pages. I LOVE the activity pages at the back of the book and I cannot wait to make the Tingly-Toes Hot Chocolate!

We both agree that this is another great addition to the Isadora Moon series and, with its sparkly front cover and back pages bursting with craft ideas, it would make the perfect gift for little bookworms this Christmas.

An afternoon of Isadora fun!

We finished this book a little while a go but we were saving our review for this month as last weekend we all had the pleasure of meeting Harriet again at another Isadora Moon event.

The Mini Reviewers dressed to impress as characters from the books. As you can see we have Wilbur the Wizard, Isadora's Mum, who is a fairy and of course Isadora herself. They enjoyed some Isadora themed games before a draw-a-long with Harriet followed by a book signing, cuddles with Pink Rabbit and even more games.

Izzie was delighted that Harriet remembered her from last time and she enjoyed chatting to her about the miniature Isadora Moon scene Harriet had brought with her again. Apparently they agreed that Harriet should make Isadora's bedroom next but Izzie has since decided that it needs to be covered in snow like the scene from Isadora Moon Makes Winter Magic - no pressure there Harriet!!!

We finished off the afternoon by watching Harriet decorate the walls of the Children's Department, so if you are ever in Waterstones Deansgate (Manchester) do see if you can spot two little Isadoras and also keep an eye out for Chris Riddell's amazing dragon!

Why not check out the whole series of Isadora Moon stories as well as some other fantastic first chapter books via our Amazon Store (affiliate link).

Until next time Happy Reading!
