366 Books in 366 Days: Who's the Daddy?

Ok, so I know I’ve missed Father’s Day this year but perhaps there is a special daddy with a birthday soon or even a brand new daddy that you’d like to treat? Well we have been lucky enough to review quite a few daddy-themed books recently, so here’s a little round-up of our favourites...

Amazing Daddy - Rachel Bright
“Amazing Daddy” by Rachel Bright features a little panda and his daddy. Starting with the line “My daddy is a hundred things, A hundred things and more!”, the book perfectly captures the essence of the fun yet loving relationship between the little panda and his daddy. Beautifully illustrated and full of humour, this rhyming book really appealed to me and the Mini Reviewers. They could relate to the similarities between daddy panda and their own daddy. For example, calling him at work, their bedtime routine, playing all day with him, the shoulder rides and even his grumpy morning face!

Izzie (4) found this picture of the “extra large” stack of pancakes hilarious and exclaimed “just how is he going to eat all those?”

Theo (2) loved the double page spread of the “hundred” things daddy does. He enjoyed saying what they were doing in each tiny illustration.
Poppy (8 months) was drawn in by the bold and bright pictures. Overall this is a great, quirky book and is one of our current favourite reads.

I Love My Daddy - Giles Andreae and Emma Dodd
Such a gentle book with lovely illustrations from Emma Dodd. The Mini Reviewers love this story because the daddy was just like their daddy he plays horsies, makes the best pancakes and he even had a prickly chin!

My Dad Will Do - Martin Thomas
This is a simple, yet lovely story about a little elephant's relationship with his Dad. The little elephant is finding it difficult being small as everything is out of reach but he realises when his Dad is close by, anything is possible. All three Mini Reviewers love this story and because it's full of rhyme and repetition, they can easily join in. Theo was delighted when the Dad lifts up the little elephant at the end.

Peppa Pig: My Daddy
In this funny book, Peppa tells us all about her daddy and of course, “He is the best daddy in the whole wide world!” Based on the popular T.V series it includes all the main characters and will delight any little Peppa fan. As you can see, it certainly delights Mini Reviewer, Theo.

5. Bing: Something For Daddy!
This book is perfect for any Bing fans. It is bold and bright but best of all it is full of Bing and Flop. In the story Bing makes a shiny, feathery, sparkly, sticky, gooey thing for Daddy but uh oh, he has an accident with the "goo". The book has been a massive hit with the Mini Reviewers, especially Theo who adores Bing. I am not particularly keen on it as there isn't much of a story. Also I think some of the words are a bit dubious, for example, I'd much rather it said "glue" than "goo" - but I’m sure that it's just a Bing thing!

If you like these recommendations, we have also already reviewed these daddy-themed books:

Do you have any suggestions to add to our list of daddy books?
